Introducing Interlude: Illustrated Journeys into Human Experience

The light is still on when you arrive. A familiar chair waits beside the lamp, and the room seems to make space for the person you are at the end of the day. You put down what you have been carrying. For a moment, there is nowhere else you need to be.

A scene like this can hold more than its visible details. It can carry recognition, relief, or the feeling of returning to yourself. Words and images, given enough room to work together, can bring us close to that experience.

That is the invitation behind Interlude, a new illustrated series from the Worlds of Mirabilia.

What is Interlude?

Interlude brings together art, psychology, and imagination in short illustrated journeys through the experience of being human. Each publication follows a feeling, encounter, ritual, question, or passage of time, giving it form through images and writing.

An Interlude might unfold over an evening, linger in the preparations for someone’s arrival, or explore the particular pleasure of returning somewhere familiar. Its length and rhythm follow the experience. Some moments need a few words and an image; others invite a story to develop across several pages.

The hope is that you reach the end feeling you have lived something: perhaps recognized a feeling you know well, perhaps entered an experience you had never quite considered.

A feeling given somewhere to live

Mirabilia’s imaginative worlds give these experiences their surroundings. Light, color, objects, rooms, and landscapes can all help a story become tangible. A lamp left burning can suggest that someone has thought of you. A table being set can carry anticipation before anyone arrives.

The psychological meaning lives in those details. You can follow the experience and notice what it brings to mind, with room for your own response.

An Interlude can be quiet, playful, companionable, wistful, or full of possibility. There is room here for the range of human experience, including the small pleasures that rarely announce themselves as significant until we pause with them.

How Interlude differs from Presence

Alongside Interlude, Mirabilia is introducing Presence: The Art of Place. Both publications bring illustration, atmosphere, and thoughtful writing together. Each offers a different way to enter Mirabilia.

Interlude centers on an experience. Presence centers on a place and the relationships that make it beautiful.

Imagine a conservatory on a rainy morning. An Interlude might let you settle into the chair, hear the rain overhead, and linger over tea as the morning unfolds. Presence might guide your attention to the glazing, the worn stone floor, the planting beyond the windows, and the way each element shapes the room.

With Interlude, the invitation is to feel as though you have lived that morning. With Presence, it is to feel as though you have visited the conservatory and understood its character.

A small space for absorption

Interlude offers a place to spend a little time with an idea or feeling while words and images carry you through it. You can return to an image, reread a passage, or simply enjoy the experience as it unfolds.

Each publication is an invitation to discover what a moment can hold when we give it our attention.
